His Story

Benjamin Carlton is an inspiring force for change, an intellectual trailblazer, and a relatable voice in the national movement that celebrates black people for their aspirations and contributions. His dedication to securing fundamental freedoms such as the right to Live, Own, Vote, and Excel has made him a catalyst for transformation. As a co-founder of the renowned BMe Community, Benjamin empowers and inspires community builders across the nation. Under his visionary leadership, BMe has not only influenced national policies but also invested millions of dollars in local community leaders, creating tangible impact in the lives of over 2 million families.

Beyond his influential role as a community leader, Benjamin is a multi-faceted talent, showcasing his versatility as an actor, activist, and author of the acclaimed book "I’m Black, I’m a Minister, and I’m Gay." He has emerged as a sought-after diversity, equity, and inclusion trainer, sharing his expertise in asset-framing, storytelling, and narrative change.

His expertise in asset-framing, storytelling, and narrative change has enlightened and transformed renowned organizations like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, CBS Viacom, and the Obama Administration. The core principle of asset-framing, championed by Benjamin, is to recognize individuals for their contributions rather than their costs, encouraging them to embrace their aspirational identities and create positive change for themselves and society.

In 2016, Benjamin fearlessly revealed his authentic self as a gay minister, sparking a national dialogue through his feature in TheRoot.com. As a captivating TEDx speaker, he emboldens audiences to embrace their true selves and live authentically each day. With over a decade of experience in social innovation, public relations, equity and inclusion, and executive leadership, Benjamin tirelessly advocates for a better America and fights for the rights and fair treatment of the black and LGBTQ communities.

Benjamin's commitment to empowerment extends globally with the launch of STAN for LOVE in 2021—a groundbreaking movement elevating the Black Queer experience. Through this initiative, he tours the nation, offering support to those struggling to accept themselves or those who differ from them. Benjamin recognizes that queer people of color often spearhead critical fights for workers' rights, racial justice, and criminal justice and immigration reform. Yet, they continue to face discrimination at home, in the workplace, and within their communities. Benjamin seeks to reshape this narrative by addressing the systemic issues that perpetuate discrimination against LGBTQIA+ communities.

As an activist, founder, and social entrepreneur, Benjamin's remarkable journey has garnered widespread recognition. He has been featured in esteemed publications and platforms such as ABC, CBS, Vogue Magazine, and The Huffington Post. His transformative impact has touched the lives of millions, and his pioneering work in community building has earned him esteemed fellowships, including the Miami Fellows Fellowship with the Miami Foundation and the AT&T Emerging Leaders Fellowship. Notably, he has been recognized by the National LGBTQ Task Force for his invaluable contributions.

Benjamin Carlton is an exceptional advocate who works tirelessly for an inclusive America that empowers everyone. His journey inspires hope, ignites change, and reminds us all to embrace love, acceptance, and authenticity as we strive for a more just and compassionate society.
